Forum on Recent Research in Gender and Ming-Qing Culture (11/2015)

Scholars from around the world assemble at HKBU to discuss gender issues in Ming-Qing dynasty.

At the Forum on Recent Research in Gender and Ming-Qing Culture, 16 frontier scholars in different fields from Hong Kong, the US, and Australia discussed gender issues in Ming-Qing dynasty. Organised by the Department of History and Mr Simon Suen and Mrs Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute together with the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Hong Kong, the Forum took place on HKBU campus on 24 November 2015.

The Forum provided a platform for participants to share various dimensions of their recent findings and current research projects. The usefulness of gender as a category of analysis was interestingly and productively debated, drawing insights from disciplines such as history, literature, religion, and philosophy.

The event was very well received and successfully attracted a full house. The audience included students from a range of programmes and scholars from various universities.
