Main Research Areas of Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute (SHI) include:

  • Classics of Chinese Humanities
  • Chinese Culture and its humanistic spirit
  • Chinese Language and Literature
  • Chinese Religion, History and Philosophy
  • Western Sinology

Similar to other research postgraduate programmes in HKBU, Mphil and PhD students of SHI are required to finish coursework, complete an approved programme of supervised research, present the findings of their research in a thesis or dissertation, and pass the oral examination of the written thesis.

Scholarships

Thanks to the generous donation of HK$ 3,000,000 from the Simon Suen Foundation in Spring, 2022 to set up the Young Researcher in Chinese Humanities Scheme, the Institute is able to embark on nurturing and supporting young students who are dedicated to Chinese humanities studies.

Scholarships will be given to the selected recipients subjected to their academic performance and the resources availability of SHI every year.
