The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong’s Bridges Street Centre is located in Sheung Wan of Hong Kong Island, which was originally named “The Central Building”, built in 1918 and served as the headquarters of the Association before 1966. The famous Chinese writer Lu Xun once lectured at the Centre in 1927, and during the Battle against Japan the building was used for Hong Kong’s Air Raid Precaution Department and to accommodate refugees. Due to its architectural and historic values, in 2009 it was declared as a Grade I Historic Building, and later in 2023 it became a Declared Monument.
