Classics endure through the ages; their principles remain ever new. The Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute at Hong Kong Baptist University organized the “Lingnan Literati and Their Heritage: Discourses and Texts of Ancient Chinese Literature” Workshop on 12 December 2025. This event aims to explore the complex relationship between "discourse" and "text" in ancient Chinese literature, examining how they jointly shape the spiritual connotations and intellectual formations of literature. We aim to revisit the classics from multidisciplinary perspectives, continuing the literary tradition, and collaboratively pursuing new ideas and methodologies for the study of ancient Chinese literature, thereby promoting sustained innovation and deepening research in the field.
Conference themes include, but are not limited to:
1. The Formation of Classics and the Power of Discourse
2. Textual Transmission and Interpretations of Discourse
3. Genre Interpenetration and Boundaries of Discourse
4. Discursive Construction and Textual Practice of Literary Forms
5. Cross-Media and Cross-Cultural Discursive Interactions
6. Literary Discourse from the Perspectives of Lingnan and Overseas Sinology
We are honored to have Professor Shi Yidui, a highly esteemed scholar and Professor Emeritus of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Macau, as the special guest/keynote speaker for the opening ceremony.
