Youli and Wuyi: On Images of Wind and Water in Chinese Poetics (4/2024, Summary & Video)

The HKBU Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute is very honoured to invite Professor Asami Yoji, Professor, Division of Humanities, Graduate School of Humanities of Osaka University, Japan, to visit HKBU to serve as University Fellow. During his visit from April to May 2024, he will conduct two public lectures, and a seminar for post-doctoral fellows and postgraduates. It will be a precious learning opportunity for HKBU students, the local academia and local citizens. All are welcome to participate. Details of First Lecture are as follows:

Summary:
本次講座,淺見洋二教授以「『有力』與『無意』――論中國詩學中『風』和『水』」的意象」為題,闡述了「有力」的詩學與「無意」的詩學的特點以及兩者的相融之處。
首先,淺見教授以陸機的《文賦》引入「有力」這一詩學概念,接著以李白、杜甫、蘇軾、黃庭堅等詩作中有關「風」、「水」的描寫,指出雖然「力」是無形且無法觸摸的,但文學作品試圖通過「風」、「水」把無形的「力」變得可視。此外,很多優秀的文學作品都把「風」、「水」聯繫起來,形成使萬物皆懼的力量,杜甫、韓愈、蘇軾、黃庭堅、楊萬里、惠洪等人的詩作,都在無形之中產生一股強大的力量,使鬼神懼怕。另外,「風」、「水」還表現出如千軍萬馬般的氣勢,突顯了磅礴壯闊、雄渾有力的氣象。淺見教授還發現中國詩歌多以「風」和「水」爲意象,以「火」為意象相對來説比較少,這個現象值得深入探討。
第二部分闡述「無意」的詩學特點,淺見教授以姜夔、蘇洵、蘇軾、黃庭堅、汪藻的文論為例,指出「力」不但只有「暴力」的形式,而且可以是平靜、靜謐的,它超越運動和變化,甚至可以超脫作者創作意圖的限制。通過觀察宋代詩學的譜系,淺見教授認爲佛法論可歸入「無意」的詩學,並表現自在無為的運動與變化。
第三部分探討「有力」詩學與「無意」詩學的共通相融之處。淺見教授認爲「有意」的詩學與「無意」的詩學是並行的,而且在同一位作者身上,兩種詩學觀念是可以並存發展的,「有力」詩學與「無意」詩學並非截然不同的體系,關鍵是需要梳理兩者所交織的脈絡。
總而言之,「風」、「水」兩者皆表現大自然的神秘性,人類對自然有敬畏之心,他們追求與「天」同化,從鍾嶸「動天地、感鬼神」的「感物說」,到劉勰「與天地並生」,再到孟郊「物象由我裁」中的「我」,其實已非現實中的「我」,而是與天同化、超越現實的「我」。
