Abstract:
The basic question of the paper is if and how literary materials can be useful as historical sources. After referring to precedents in Western and Chinese history (Les Annales; “poet-historian” 詩史, some of Feng Menglong’s works) the three fields in which rich information can be collected from literary materials are shortly presented: 1. Everyday life and material culture; 2. Everyday thought; 3. Representation of everyday emotions in anthropological researches. As an example the “Mountain Songs”, Shan’ge 山歌 by Feng Menglong is presented.
