From 30 November to 2 December 2011, SHI, together with Department of Chinese Language and Literature, The Research Centre for Chinese Cultural Heritage of HKBU co-organised the International Symposium on the Bamboo Strip Writings, Canons and Early History. It invited twelve internationally renowned scholars as Keynote Speakers and more than thirty scholars from all over the world to participate, and present papers on relevant research. The symposium attracted more than sixty local scholars, postgraduate students and the public, and had a significant impact on the international academic circle.
The conference proceedings were published by the Shanghai Guji Chubanshe as a volume Bamboo Strips, Silk Writing, Classics and Early China (簡帛‧經典‧古史, Chen Zhi, ed. Shanghai Chinese Classics Publishing House) in 2013. Thirty-five papers from participating scholars including Qiu Xigui, Li Ling, Tomohisa Ikeda, Edward L. Shaughnessy and etc. were included, discussing the Guodian Chu Slips, Shanghai Museum Bamboo Slips, Tsinghua Bamboo Slips, Mawangdui Silk Texts, etc. in various aspects such as textual interpretation, semantic analysis, historical research.
